December 2, 202310 Reasons why choose Uganda for Gorilla trekking
April 12, 2024Gorilla trekking
Gorilla trekking is a bucket-list experience for many wildlife enthusiasts, offering a rare and intimate encounter with one of the world’s most iconic and endangered species in their natural habitat.
There is something so humbling, so peaceful, so mesmerizing about being in close proximity to these creatures.
Visiting gorillas in the wild is to wind back the clock of human evolution; to look into the mirror, and magically see a 10 million-year-old version of you staring right back! They are 98% genetically identical to humans, after all. The gorillas are some of our closest relatives in the wild, and being in their presence is an honor.
Embark on a gorilla trekking journey to the Volcanoes national park in Rwanda and the Bwindi impenetrable national park in Uganda.
Here gorillas have been habituated – a sensitively handled process which takes up to 2-4 years which means they are comfortable and at ease around humans. The tracking experience is an open door to seeing these primates in their natural habitat and the trek to reach them is wild enough itself; some of the flora is so dense, rangers have to cut it back with machetes. There are no footpaths or clear routes, just the rangers following their intuition as you scramble behind them
Chimpanzee trekking
Chimpanzees trekking may get much less hype in the travel media compared to gorilla trekking but its arguably one of the most amazing adventure experience while in Africa. Tracking our closest relative through the African jungle is in fact one of the world’s most thrilling wildlife encounters. Although there are around 300,000 chimpanzees left in the equatorial forests of Africa, observing them in their natural habitat is a rare treat.
Coming face-to-face with a wild chimpanzee is every bit as breathlessly exhilarating. In fact, this experience is arguably better, because the terrain is much easier, the forest less dense, the chimpanzees easier to find, and the price significantly cheaper; costing a fraction of visiting the larger cousins- the gorillas.
There are very many good reasons why you need to consider putting chimps right at the top of your must-see list while in Africa.
Our amazing chimpanzee treks will take you to the dense jungles of Nyungwe national park in Rwanda and Kibale national park in Uganda.
Golden monkey trekking
Golden monkey trekking is a captivating wildlife experience that allows visitors to encounter and observe golden monkeys in their natural habitat.
Golden monkeys are not only a symbol of the unique biodiversity of the Virunga Massif but also a flagship species for conservation efforts in the region. Their captivating appearance and social behaviors make them a highlight for those fortunate enough to observe them during golden monkey trekking experiences.
This unique activity can only be done specifically in Rwanda’s Volcanoes national park and Uganda’s Mgahinga gorilla national park in the whole world!
Gorilla habituation
Being part of the gorilla habituation is such a captivating experience that can take your breath away and leave you feeling in awe of nature. As majestic primates, gorillas have a certain grace that can be mesmerizing to watch.
The Gorilla Habituation Experience is a unique and immersive wildlife activity that allows a limited number of visitors to spend an extended period of time with a group of mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. This experience differs from traditional gorilla trekking in that it involves spending more time (4 hours) with a gorilla group that is in the process of being habituated to human presence. The habituation process is essential for reducing the stress and aggression that gorillas might exhibit when encountering humans.
Gorilla habituation experience is only available in the Uganda’s Bwindi impenetrable national park southern sector.
This unique gorilla encounter is only restricted to 8 people a day. Planning in advance is very importance to secure a chance to be part of this amazing experience.
Chimpanzee habituation
Just like gorilla habituation, chimpanzee habituation is a unique way to experience the chimpanzee empire in the thick jungle of Kibale national park.
Spending more time (4 hours ) exclusively in a group of strictly not more than 8 people with our closet relatives in the wild offers the best opportunity to learn about the social behaviors and habitat of the chimpanzees.
Chimpanzee have no permanent home, they make nests ever evening and spend their night there. Rangers will take you to the exact spot where they slept and if you arrive in time before they wake up , you will watch them start their day from the nests high in the branches, slowly coming down one by one to start their day.
On the habituation experience, you will follow the chimps as they search their food through the day.
This amazing experience is only available in Uganda’s Kibale national park.
