Buraiga Chimpanzee Community
The Buraiga chimpanzees are a community of eastern chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii) living within the largest remaining population fragment of Kibale National Park in Uganda.
The Buraiga chimpanzees has been undergoing habituation and research by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and Ngogo chimpanzee project since 2018 but was official opened for chimpanzee trekking earlier this years of 2024
The Buraiga chimpanzee community is now one of the biggest chimpanzee community with over 40 members roaming the thick jungle of Kibale national park.

Buraiga chimpanzee community can easily be accessed from the main road (Fortportal- Mbarara road) just before the bridge
With prior booking and securing chimpanzee trekking permits from Uganda Wildlife Authority, tourists are required to present them at the Kanyanchu offices and later given ranger and guides to take them into the forest to search for the amazing primates.

Ngogo Chimpanzee Community

Briefing kicks off at exactly 8am with one of the senior rangers taking you through the dos and don’ts while trekking the chimpanzees in the forest
Later, your will drive off with your armed ranger and other ranger escorts and guards from the visitor center to Buraiga chimpanzee community trail starting point which is along the high away and walk deep in the jungle to encounter our closest cousins.
