Your 7 Days Experience Rwanda Safari  begins in Kigali, one of Africa’s cleanest and most progressive cities. After your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel for check-in and a brief rest. In the afternoon, begin exploring Kigali with a guided city tour that delves into the country’s complex past and promising future. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a powerful and moving tribute to the 1994 genocide, which also stands as a symbol of Rwanda’s remarkable recovery. Next, explore bustling markets like Kimironko for a taste of local life, and drop by the Inema Arts Center to appreciate contemporary Rwandan creativity. End your day with a welcome dinner featuring Rwandan dishes and cultural performances that offer a heartfelt introduction to the traditions of the people.

Day 2: Kigali to Akagera National Park – Scenic Drive & Sunset Safari

After breakfast, depart Kigali and drive eastward through rolling hills and rural villages toward Akagera National Park, a beautiful reserve along Rwanda’s border with Tanzania. Akagera is the only savanna park in the country and home to the Big Five—lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo—along with hippos, crocodiles, antelopes, and a dazzling array of birds. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch and some relaxation before heading out on a late afternoon game drive. As the golden hour settles over the acacia woodlands and open plains, look out for elephants grazing near the lakes, herds of zebra crossing the roads, and lions beginning to stir for the evening hunt. The sunset over Lake Ihema makes for a spectacular end to the day. Return to your lodge for dinner, surrounded by the soothing sounds of the African bush.

Day 3: Full-Day Game Drive in Akagera – Search for the Big Five

Wake up early and set out for a full day of wildlife viewing inside Akagera National Park. This is your best chance to encounter the Big Five as you explore different ecological zones—from papyrus swamps and lakes to savanna plains and forested hills. With your guide’s trained eyes and knowledge of the terrain, you’ll track elephants, giraffes, impalas, topis, and possibly spot elusive predators like lions, hyenas, and leopards. Stop for a picnic lunch in a scenic area, enjoying the raw beauty of Rwanda’s only savanna ecosystem. Birdwatchers will delight in seeing species such as the shoebill stork, African fish eagle, and grey crowned crane. In the late afternoon, return to your lodge to rest and enjoy the views. This day offers a truly wild Rwandan experience, full of unforgettable animal encounters

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park – Northern Rwanda Landscapes

After breakfast, begin continue with your 7 Days Experience Rwanda Safari to the northwestern part of Rwanda, heading toward the majestic Volcanoes National Park. The drive itself is scenic and enriching, taking you through terraced hills, green tea plantations, and picturesque rural landscapes. En route, stop for lunch in Musanze, Rwanda’s gateway to gorilla trekking and a bustling town surrounded by volcanoes.

7 Days Experience Rwanda Safari

Upon arrival at your lodge, nestled in the foothills of the Virunga Mountains, take the afternoon to relax or explore your surroundings. If time allows, consider an optional visit to the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund—a world-class research and conservation center where you can learn about primate protection efforts and Rwanda’s leadership in wildlife conservation. Enjoy dinner with a view of mist-covered peaks as you prepare for tomorrow’s adventure.

Day 5: Golden Monkey Trekking & Cultural Experience

Today, venture into Volcanoes National Park for a thrilling golden monkey trekking experience. These endangered primates are known for their playful nature and striking golden-orange fur. With the help of your experienced guide, follow their movements through the bamboo forest, observing them as they feed, groom, and leap from branch to branch. The trek is relatively easy and suitable for most fitness levels, but incredibly rewarding. After your return and lunch, immerse yourself in Rwanda’s cultural heritage with a visit to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village. Here, former poachers have become cultural ambassadors, sharing their traditions, music, dance, and storytelling with visitors. Try your hand at drumming, learn about local medicinal plants, and participate in a traditional Intore warrior dance. This day is both adventurous and deeply meaningful, blending conservation, community, and culture.

Day 6: Drive to Lake Kivu – Lakeside Serenity in Gisenyi

After breakfast, drive west to Gisenyi, a charming lakeside town on the shores of Lake Kivu, Rwanda’s largest lake. Nestled between green hills and the sparkling water, Gisenyi offers a peaceful retreat after days of safari and trekking. Check into your lakeside resort and enjoy a laid-back afternoon. You may choose to take a boat ride to nearby islands, visit local hot springs, or tour a coffee cooperative to learn how Rwanda’s famous beans are grown and processed. For the more relaxed traveler, simply stroll along the lakefront promenade or enjoy a swim in the warm, bilharzia-free waters. As the sun sets over the lake, unwind with a fresh seafood dinner and reflect on the incredible experiences of the past few days.

Day 7: Return to Kigali – Departure

On your final day, enjoy a leisurely breakfast by the lake before starting your drive back to Kigali. The journey winds through Rwanda’s iconic rolling hills, with opportunities to stop at craft shops or enjoy scenic viewpoints along the way. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for a farewell lunch in the city or a visit to the Caplaki Craft Village for souvenirs. Your guide will ensure you are transferred to Kigali International Airport in time for your departure, ending your unforgettable 7-day Rwandan adventure.
