Day 1: Kigali – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park via Rwanda’s Scenic Highlands

Rise early for a hearty breakfast and drive back to the park headquarters for the start of your Mount Bisoke volcano hike. Standing at 3,711 meters, Bisoke is an extinct volcano straddling the Rwanda–DRC border and is famous for its stunning crater lake at the summit.
The hike begins at the Bisoke trailhead and takes about 6–7 hours round-trip, depending on pace and weather. The trail winds through dense rainforest, afro-alpine vegetation, and rugged volcanic terrain. Along the way, your guide may point out unique birds, forest creatures, or even signs of gorillas that inhabit the area. Reaching the summit is a rewarding experience—with panoramic views across the Virunga range and the beautiful crater lake shimmering below.
After the descent, enjoy a late lunch and a short rest before starting the drive back to Kigali, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel or airport in the evening.
